What to know about shoe cleaning
Dust, sand and salt
Fine sand works into the stitching and the sole gap, and beach outings add salt that dries pale on dark uppers. Both are abrasive, so leaving them in place shortens the life of the shoe rather than just looking untidy.
Suede, leather and knit are not interchangeable
Suede must stay dry and be brushed, smooth leather needs conditioning after cleaning, and knit runners can distort if soaked and dried badly. That is why branded and delicate pairs are priced separately.
Midsoles and laces
Laces and insoles are handled separately from the upper, and yellowed rubber midsoles are worked on directly instead of being wiped over.

We clean the upper, midsole, laces and insole by hand. Permanent scuffs, dye transfer and yellowing that has set into the material may improve without disappearing.
